Cristina Herrera, M.Sc.
Researcher
Cristina Herrera is a researcher at the Canadian Institute for Safety Wellness and Performance. She has expertise in identifying potential risk factors contributing to injuries across various populations. Her knowledge extends to the development and implementation of targeted exercise programs aimed at overcoming and preventing these injuries.
Specializing in clinical biomechanics and shoulder biomechanics, Cristina's research pursuits focus on unraveling the intricate mechanisms of musculoskeletal injuries and exploring effective pathways for their prevention. She is proficient in biomechanics data collection, processing, and analysis, and she employs an array of sophisticated equipment, including electromyography, motion capture systems, force plates, inertial measurement units, and ultrasound imaging.
Cristina completed a bachelor’s degree in physical education (Universidad de la Republica, Uruguay), a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy (Universidad Catolica, Uruguay), a master’s degree in human performance -biomechanics- (Barry University, USA), and her doctoral thesis in kinesiology with a focus on clinical biomechanics from the University of Waterloo has recently been approved.
